What you'll cover:

Sussex Health and Care Partnership are running a 2 week Nursing Virtual Work Experience, to give students in Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 an overview of what a career in nursing can offer. During the programme you’ll meet NHS professionals, have the opportunity to ask them questions and learn about their day to day work. You’ll learn about different areas of nursing and complete work and assignments. If you complete the full programme you’ll receive a certificate to add to your CV and/or personal statement. 

What's involved:

The programme is spread over two weeks in February. There is around 10 hours of activity which you can fit around other obligations that you have. There are live webinars but once they have taken place a recording will be available to watch. During this 10 hour work experience programme you’ll cover the following areas:  

 

  • The World of NHS
  • A career in Nursing
  • Mental Health Nursing 
  • Adult Nursing
  • Children’s Nursing
  • Learning Disability Nursing
  • Midwifery 
  • Communication skills in nursing
  • How to become a nurse
  • Getting career ready
 

Eligibility

The Allied Health Professional work experience programme will begin on 15th February and finish on the 26th of February. Students in years 10, 11, 12 or 13 who live in Sussex and have predicted or actual GCSE grade 6 in Maths, English and Science are welcome to apply. 

 

A proportion of places on the programme will be given to students who fit the following widening participation criteria: 

  • No immediate family history of higher education (eg, university), excluding siblings
  • Currently in, or have been in, the care of the local authority
  • Care for someone at home with a long-term disability
  • Have an Educational, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Are eligible for free school meals and/or a 16-19 “discretionary” bursary. 
 

The deadline for applications is January 22nd 2021. Applicants will hear if they have a place on the programme on the evening of January 29th 2021.

When is it?

The virtual work experience will begin on 15th February and finish on the 26th of February. There will be around 10 hours of activity for you to complete with 5 or 6 live workshops. If you can’t attend those live you’ll be able to catch up by watching recordings.

What if I live outside Sussex?

This programme is only open to applications from students whose home address is in Sussex. If you live outside sussex then don’t worry, we expect to have more virtual work experience opportunities that you will be able to apply for.

What Technology will I need?

You’ll need access to a computer to be able to take part.
