Overview:

Trusts in North West London are collaborating to run a two week Medicine Virtual Work Experience. This work experience programme will give you the chance to see life inside the NHS. You’ll learn about day-to-day life, the values you’ll need to succeed and how you can begin a career in medicine; from applying for a degree to succeeding in a range of roles, and everything in between. All you need to access this programme is a computer that you can use for 10 hours over the 2 weeks. You can fit the work around your schedule.

What's you’ll cover:

The programme is spread over two weeks in April. There is around 10 hours of activity which you can fit around other obligations that you have. There are live webinars but once they have taken place a recording will be available to watch. During this work experience programme you’ll cover the following areas:  

  • The World of NHS
  • A Career in Medicine
  • Why Study Medicine
  • Applying to Medical School
  • Foundation Training
  • Speciality Training
  • Working as a GP
  • Paediatrics
  • Obstetrics and gynaecology
  • Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Emergency, A&E, ITU, Anaesthetics
  • Radiology
 

Eligibility

The medicine work experience programme will take place from 6th April – 16th April 2021. Applications are open to students from years 10 – 13 who attend a school or college based within the following local authorities:

Hammersmith and Fulham, Camden, Hillingdon, Ealing, Westminster, Richmond-upon-Thames, Harrow, Barnet, Hounslow, Kensington and Chelsea, Hampshire, Wokingham, Surrey, Windsor and Maidenhead, Oxfordshire, Bracknell Forest, West Berkshire, Berkshire, Reading or Slough.

When is it?

The Medicine Virtual Work Experience programme will take place from 6th April – 16th April 2021. There will be around 10 hours of activity for you to complete with 5 or 6 live workshops. If you can’t attend those live you’ll be able to catch up by watching recordings and you’ll still be able to enter the competition.

When do applicants hear back?

Applicants will hear if they have a place on the programme on the evening of March 19th 2021.

How do I apply?

To apply for the virtual work experience you need to create a Springpod account and ‘apply’ for the work experience programme.

When is the application deadline?

The deadline for applications is March 12th 2021. 

What if my school is outside of this list of local authorities?

This programme is only open to applications from students who attend schools within the listed local authorities. If you attend a school outside of that list of local authorities then don’t worry, we expect so have more virtual work experience opportunities that you will be able to apply for.

What Technology will I need?

You’ll need access to a computer to be able to take part.
